Onto round 2! For a little background info... about two months before we left for Europe, I started doing some research on cruise excursions. If you've been on a cruise before, you know that the excursions through the cruise line are expensive and very packed. I found a website called Cruise Critic that has a bunch of forums to connect with people who are on the same cruise. I scrolled through the forum and found a guy who was looking for another couple to travel with. It was important to us to try and find younger couples to partner up with vs families with young children (nothing against children, but we just aren't in that stage of life yet). I immediately emailed him and he said they were a group of 4 all from the Washington DC area. He sent me the 3 excursions he already found to see if we were interested. They really did their research!! We immediately agreed to do these private excursions with them and just hoped they were normal (thank goodness they were :) ). Our new friends were Ramsey, Justin, Kristan and John. We had so much fun with them! Private excursions are the way to go. They are very, very small groups (6-8 people) and we had our own private car and driver so basically we got to choose what we wanted to see and what we didn't want to see. Highly recommend doing private excursions.
Back to the vacation! We woke up the next day in Villefranche, France. The shoreline was absolutely gorgeous! We just sat on our balcony in awe of how beautiful it was! We had a very, very packed day. We saw Nice and Monaco and a lot of the famous sites in between. Flower market, perfume factory, medieval village, Monte Carlo and so much more. The next day we woke up in La Spezia, Italy. This day we focused on Pisa and Florence. The Leaning Tower of Piza was incredible! You could really feel how much it was leaning as we climbed to the top. Florence was also a neat town. This was not one of our favorite places, but we will probably go back at some point to give it another shot.
